How to Harvest and Preserve Chives
One of my favorite plants to harvest is chives, both common and garlic. It is simple! The best way to harvest chives for the plant’s health is to cut 1/3 of the plant away at a time approximately 2-3 inches from the base. Imagine using a scythe on wheat. Same idea.
To preserve your chives, simply chop with scissors and throw into a freezer-safe container or bag. Nothing else is needed! When you are ready to cook with the chives, take out a handful or however much you need and throw it into the pot.
